The program introduces students to the basic requirements for an environmental management system (ISO 14001). The program is focused on professional theoretical knowledge in the field of sustainable development. The program analyzes in detail the environmental tools introduced in companies. The aim of the program is to provide students with basic knowledge of environmental, social and economic aspects that should be respected at all levels of business management. Based on the acquired knowledge and skills, students should be able to solve selected environmental, social and economic problems in the company. The program can be studied 100% online.

COURSE OF ONLINE STUDY

Upon admission to the study program, each student will gain access to the student section. Students will find all the necessary information and study materials in the student section, which represents the study system. Throughout the study, students can consult with lecturers via e-mail communication or using other online tools such as Teams or Skype. To successfully complete MEM studies, a student must complete a total of ten courses. Study requirements include answering test questions and passing a practical application exam for each subject in the program. The study is conducted in English. After completing all courses, you will be assigned a final thesis. The study is completed by elaboration of the final thesis. Subsequently, you will be issued a diploma and you will receive a professional title.

 

SUBJECTS OF THE PROGRAM

The MEM (Master of Environmental Management) degree is a degree designed for students with a primary interest in a career in environmental policy, analysis, management, education, counseling, or management dealing with natural resources or environmental issues. The aim of the program is to prepare students for the solution of ecological and social systems with scientific understanding and the ability to understand the complex social and ecological context.

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with knowledge in the field of environmental policy with a focus on environmental policy at the international and European level. Students will understand the basic principles and tools applied internationally and within the European Union. Topics of interest in international environmental policy include development, important conferences on the environment and sustainable development, recognized commitments and organizations in the field. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic concepts, procedures and principles of policies and legislation for environmental protection in the European Union. Students are acquainted with the basic ecological concepts, current global environmental problems and subsequently also with the main stages, currents and concepts of the ecological movement since the second half of the 20th century.

The course deals in detail with the issue of environmental protection in the EU and the characteristics of tools used to protect the environment. The course explains the environmental impact assessment (EIA, SEA), examines the rules of access to environmental information and deals in detail with the topics of integrated prevention and protection of biodiversity.

The course is focused on professional theoretical knowledge in the field of sustainable development and voluntary environmental instruments introduced in companies. The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of environmental, social and economic aspects that should be respected at all levels of business management. After completing the course, students should be able to choose the appropriate type of environmental indicator for the integration of environmental aspects into other policies and interpret the main results in the development of international environmental policy.

The course deals with the philosophy and concept of sustainable tourism and deals in detail with the definition and history of sustainable development, sustainable development legislation and management of sustainable tourism development. The graduate of the course is familiar with the issues of sustainable development and the need for sustainable tourism and can predict the impact of uncontrolled tourism on the destination.

The course introduces students to the basic principles of biological principles of nature protection (the concept of biodiversity, threat mechanisms, principles of protection at the level of populations, species and the environment, setting priorities in nature protection). Students are acquainted with national and international legislation on nature protection. The course deals with individual categories of specially protected areas, the principles of their protection and protective conditions as well as the obligations arising from the general protection of nature and landscape.

The course is an introduction to environmental issues. The course acquaints students with the objects of ecological study, the basic concepts of general ecology and studies the impact of man on the environment. The course deals with ecology and the impact of the population on the environment over time. Explains the concepts of technosphere and biosphere, anthropocentrism and biocentrism. Furthermore, the course deals with environmental ethics and issues of environmental education.

The course deals with basic ecological laws in the context of protection of populations, species and communities. It deals with the causes of extinction, genetic problems of small populations and the importance of metapopulation dynamics. The course explains the concept of nature protection and biodiversity and deals in detail with the distinction of the basic characteristics of biodiversity, and distinguishes aspects of species vs. territorial protection. The course also deals in detail with the negative impacts of biological invasions, fragmentation of habitats and other human influences, also deals with the protection of rare species, reintroduction programs, site management, ecological restoration, maintaining biodiversity in the current agricultural landscape.

International environmental law is a relatively new area of international law and has evolved over the last few decades. This is an area of law that is developing very dynamically, and which is characterized by frequent changes in legislation or the emergence of new legislation, most often in the form of international agreements. This course will provide students with a basic orientation in this area and provide an explanation of basic concepts, principles, entities, as well as methods of control, dispute resolution and liability in this area, as codified by current legislation.

The course deals in detail with the ongoing climate change and its impact on plants and how plants affect the planet's climate. Furthermore, the course deals with basic concepts related to the topic, the historical development of climate and the sciences dealing with this change. The aim of the course is to provide basic information about climate change, its causes and consequences in a comprehensive sense. Due to the interconnectedness of climate and vegetation functions, the course focuses not only on the effects of climate on plants, but also on the influence of plants on local, regional and global climate.

The course is devoted to understanding the processes in the hydrological cycle, which includes measurement, calculation, estimation and determination in each area. It describes in detail the problems with water resources, the concept, planning and design of functional elements and equipment for water management and use. The aim of the course is to teach students to analyze and understand the basic principles of water resources and their planning and management and to further visualize the systematic process in the field of water resources management and sustainable development of water resources.
